Boardman Road Race Bike Review

Does The “Introductory” Boardman Road Race Bike Trail Behind Others In The Range?

Boardman Road Race Bike 2013

The Boardman Race is a road bike that definitely stands out with its vast number of positive reviews and impressive features because it comes highly recommended and has a specification that includes a FSA Vero chainset, duel pivot Tektro brakes and Shimano Sora 18 speed gearing.

The Boardman Road Race Bike was rated 9 out of 10 by ‘Triathlete’s World’ for being “race-ready” but while this endorsement makes it sound like a high-end, intimidating machine for professionals, there is an introductory nature to this model that will widen its appeal. Can this bike provide a nice middle ground between a beginner’s bike and one for athletes?

What benefits have riders experienced with the “Boardman Road Race” model?

Continuing with this idea that this bike has a great specification, this is a factor that has been mentioned frequently in favourable customer reviews. Many buyers highlight different components for their quality as well as the overall aesthetics of the product, which includes a dark blue frame and the “anatomically shaped” handlebars of the Boardman finishing kit.

The triple-butted aluminium frame is another such feature, because of the light weight it produces, while others talk about the brake system.

When the bike is then taken out for a test run on the roads, the reactions from users are equally encouraging and the praise continues to flow. The design and frame appear to have allowed for a ride that is fast, responsive and smooth and none of the comfort or enjoyment has been compromised in this attempt to ensure a professional performance.

Interestingly, the gearing system that some people would have expected to be a disappointment is actually quite capable and there is no trouble handling the hills.

What are the downsides to buying this Boardman road bike?

The fact that this is an introductory, cheaper version of other Boardman road bikes means that there will be limitations, such as the fact that does not have the same level of gearing, but it is the attention to detail that is the real oddity here.

On the one hand you have some great detailing, like the branding and the fact it has be prepped for mounting mudguards, but then you have other, more important features that do not live up to expectations like the tires and the pedals and the odd choice of using white tape on the handlebars. These issues will only require simple upgrades but are worth noting before you buy.

Boardman Road Bike 2013Summary: why this Boardman Road Race Bike could still be the bike for you.

Some buyers see this model as having an entry-level specification – nothing particularly amazing but a great starting point – and this explains some of the negative factors that are experienced like the pedals and tyres.

There are more advanced models in the range but this version is highly recommended as a first road bike for its value and introduction to the style.

Overall, this is a great bike with a great specification and while the attention to detail is questionable, the comfort, looks and performance combine to ensure that it will satisfy a number of riders – particularly those a little apprehensive of their first ride.
